Yes, I said dishwasher. For Mother’s Day I was able to get a dishwasher for my tiny living sailboat. I know to some of you fellow boaters you probably think I am crazy, but it uses less water than if I washed them by hand and is super energy efficient.it uses only 1.1 litters of water in the ECO mode and 2.7 AMPS. The dishwasher is so nice to have especially how much cooking I do daily. Most of our dishes fit in it. Let me tell you a little about it.
The dishwasher is a compact countertop version made for a small apartment or a tiny space. It has a 6-place setting rack with a silverware basket. Normally it is used on a countertop hooked to a faucet, but my hubby was able to hook it to our water pump so all I need to do is fill it with dishes and push start. It comes with 6 different wash cycles heavy, normal, ECO, speed and rinse. I use the ECO the most because I want to use less water. This is a game changer. While I am talking about some new gear, we have on SV Iron Maiden I got an portable induction cooktop. I absolutely love this stovetop because we no longer heat up the boat every time I cook. In the past I would heat our boat anytime I cooked but now there is no heat. It took me a little time to learn how to use this stove because they cook super quick but draw a little more power. This powerful single burner electric countertop features 10 heating levels. The heat wattage ranges from 120W to 1500W it’s a good thing we have lithium batteries for when we are off grid. We have been doing some upgrades to Sv Iron Maiden lately. Today she got a new security camera system. You’re probably wondering why? Well, the big reason is security and the second reason are that we don’t really have any view when we are inside our boat.
We were looking for a cheap but effective system. We also wanted something that could run off solar or batteries but mostly solar. As most of you know our boat runs 98% off solar. Our water is heated by solar and our water maker is solar powered too. So of course, we needed cameras that did too. This camera system we decided to go with is a Reolink Argus security camera system. Reolink is a wireless rechargeable battery-powered security camera. It is 1080p HD 2-way audio starlight night vision with PIR motion sensor SD Card slot. It is simple to install because there are no wires and will only take a few minutes to put in. The cameras record to SD cards and WIFI cloud storage. My favorite feature is the audible alarm sensor when you walk by this is also the time the camera starts recording. It has live view and playback of the camera via your phone. It only uses 2.4G WIFI. We have been having issue’s with people approaching our boat via the finger pier or walkway to our boat. This happen today a strange man got onto the deck of our boat but was spooked by the cameras alarm. I'm so glad we decided to protect our tiny home. We also added automatic solar lights too. If you are looking for a simple but effective security system check out my link and get yourself some to protect what is important to you. I am in love with my new kitchen tool. We started our keto diet almost a year ago. When we started it, I thought there was no way I could do this diet since I could not live without pasta. Then I discovered zoodles. What are zoodles you ask well they are noodles made from zucchini? I used a hand-held spiralizer which was ok, but it made a mess and wasted most of the zucchini. Then I found this awesome kitchen tool that would help with make zoodles in no time it is a spiralizer. This spiralizer comes with 7-blades that not only slices zucchinis it makes all kids veggie noodles like carrots, cucumber, and potatoes. It’s the quickest way for you to replace carb-loaded meals. Here is a yummy recipe made with my spiralizer. Zucchini Muffins Ingredients 1 ½ cup shredded zucchini 1 ½ cup of walnuts 6 Lg eggs 1/3 cup coconut oil ½ cup of coconut flour ½ sweetener ¼ tsp baking soda 1 tsp cinnamon Instructions 1. Combine the ingredients except for zucchini and nuts. 2. Stir in the zucchini and walnuts. 3. Spoon batter into a muffin pan. 4. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes. This blog post is not sponsored by amazon but if you decided to purchase the spiralizer then please use my links it really supports my blog. We started off with 4 Renogy 100W Monocrystalline Photovoltaic PV Solar Panels and 4 6volt deep cycle AGM batteries in series parallel configuration. Meaning we took two 225 amp hour 6 volt batteries and connected them together in parallel to create 12 volts and then in series with 2 other 6v to 12v to create a larger 12-volt Bank. A total of 450 amp hours of power in this bank was achieved. This configuration worked very well for us but we didn't have the redundancy that I felt we needed to make it more reliable so I added a three-way switch so I could switch it from One bank to another or both Banks together and added another bank of series parallel 6 volt to 12 volt Bank. By doing so we doubled our capacity to 900-amp hours and allowed us to isolate a bank if we had troubles with it. Now back to the panels. To ensure that we had no shading we placed the panels to the rear of the boat on top of our davits. Shading is your enemy when it comes to solar panels. Shading on one panel can adversely affect the power output on all your panels that are connected on your system. Shading just one out of 36 cells in a small solar panel can reduce power output by over 75%on that panel and cause a reduction in power to the whole system as much as 25%. I have seen systems on other boats where literally half of the panels on their system are shaded by their sail or sail bag. A system like that will be operating at a reduced capacity all the time. Depending on the position of the boat one side will always be shaded and cause a reduction in power to the whole system. We also have a 400 watt wind generator that we haven't had to use yet. A follow up on the system with the wind generator will be in future blogs. This is not a sponsored blog. I use affiliate links. IThis is the best investment we made for our tiny home. Our home is a sailboat, so you know what that means. Yes, they have stinky heads on all boats. Well since we were not fans of the odor coming from smelling black water tank my hubby suggested a composting toilet. At first, I was like you want a what? A compost toilet what is that? Well turned out to be awesome and so easy to take care of. A compost toilet is portable, self-contained, urine separating dry toilet. Meaning there are two separate sections for #1 and #2.
The natures head is perfect for any tiny home, boat, and RV or any off grid home. The unit is self-contained with sections, so it has no foul odors. There is also a low voltage fan that is built into the unit that also helps compost and circulate the air. It is very rugged and made with all stainless hardware. This product was designed by two long time sailors who knew what would work best on boats or small spaces. I bet your thinking its hard to take care of well you are wrong. I purchased an extra tank for urine, so I only have to empty it once a week. The #2 area is also easy to take care of as well. I change out the compost every two to three months depending on how much use it gets. You will know its time when it is hard to crank the handle any longer. Most of the time it is two adults using it but not daily since we are able to use the marina bathroom too. To take care of the compost I just open the unit and take the urine container out and take to the nearest rest room to dump super simple. As far as the compost section that is simple to just open unit after removing the vent hose, urine container and just dump into a composting bag or a garbage bag. We then only clean off the crank handle because I don’t want to disturb the natural compost in the bin. Once clean I then fill it with Nature’s coconut coir which comes from 100 percent natural byproduct of harvesting coconut. That’s it so simple to take care of. I also added a portable potty just in case you didn't have time to empty your tank. If you are tired of the smelly odors from you head, then this product is for you. It is the best addition we ever made to Sv Iron Maiden. If you have any questions about the composting head or how to take care of it feel free to contact on my website www.tinylivinginfo.weebly.com or on Facebook. This blog post is not sponsored by natures head but if you decided to purchase the composting head then please use my links below it really supports my blog. I want to tell you about my fridge and freezer that I use in my tiny home.
My fridge is a Edgestar fridge/freezer. I use it as a fridge, but it can be used as either. The fridge draws only one amp which is good when you are limited on power. We run it off solar energy only and using 12 volts. The fridge can also be run off 120 volt as well. This fridge is very durable to withstand a rocky cruise and even kept all our food cold during a hurricane. I know when people think tiny living they think you need a small fridge but, the truth is there are some things you want to sacrifice space for plus this great fridge comes in many sizes. The fridge holds about two to three weeks’ worth of groceries which is great for provisioning. The storage space consists of two bins one large and one small. It can be a challenge to see what you have so keeping track of what goes in and out is important. You tend to use all the food, so you really don’t waste much. This Edgestar fridge/freezer will make a great addition to any tiny home. This is not sponsored by Edgestar but purchasing from my link with help my page. Thank you for reading my blog and remember to keep living the dream but tiny.
So excited to share my new favorite addition to my galley (kitchen). When it comes to cooking tiny living style I need things that are quick and easy to use. The chopper is so easy and fun to use. The best part of the chopper is that it doesn’t require any electricity to use because it is hand powered. Hand powered makes it great for any tiny space, boats, and Rv’s You can chop vegetables, herbs, nuts and even ice. It is also super easy to clean which is great for using it anywhere. My favorite us so far has been chopping onions and making my famous guacamole. This product is not sponsored.
I wanted to review one of my new must have gear for our tiny home. This compact mini washer/dryer is so awesome. I highly recommend if you are like me and must go to the laundromat every other week. I don’t have a space to keep my washer inside of the boat right now, but I do keep it outside next to the clothes line. The washer does completely spin dry most things but there are some things that need just a few mins on the line. The compact twin tub design makes this so portable and would work in any small space. Its so lightweight and easy to use almost anywhere. You could hook it up to water but since I live off grid I use portable water and my generator to power the unit. It is also super quiet and really doesn’t use much water. Last time I used the machine it took 6 gals of water and about 40 mins to complete 4 pair of jeans, 4 shirts and 2 towels. If you interested in having a convenient way to do wash check out my link below. This is not sponsored. Thank you for checking out my blog and remember keep living the dream but tiny.
A quick review of my fleece blanket. I live off grid so things like heat and heating blankets are hard to have since we don’t have traditional electricity. Unfortunately, it has been cold and windy the past few weeks here in FL. When I lived in a large home with electricity I would use an electric blanket to keep warm and wondered if I could find one for the boat. Well of course I found one on amazon. The best part of this blanket is that it runs off 12-volt.
The blanket I choose was Roadpro 12-volt fleece heated blanket. The blanket is 100% polar fleece material which makes it super cozy. It plugs directly into your 12-volt socket and it only draws 4.6 amps or (55 watts). It has an 8ft power cord with LED indicator on the plug so at night I can tell it is still on. I have been using my blanket for the past few weeks. It is not a huge blanket only 58” x 42.5” but it works great across our queen size bed. The nice thing about this one is that it works great and doesn’t use a lot of power, so I can use it all night long. This review is not sponsored by Amazon or by Roadpro.
